ont playdowns

Not much unusual at the men's tankard except for the impresseive 8-0 record complied by Scott MacDonald. He has worked hard to bring his game up. Hope that Epping has a better playoff game against him.
Homan losing last night to an unknown was strange but better than in the playoffs.

I've surfed my T.V. for w/end coverage of the Ontario Playdowns and can't seem to find either Sportsnet or TSN covering any of the w/end games. Has anyone heard or seen any listings? If so, please post. Thanks.

They said on the webcast last night that the opposing team, Team Murphy, had a lead who was matching Lisa Weagle in making perfect tick shots.

I love surprises in curling - and Scotty McDonald is certainly the newest one on the scene.

Obvious he's worked hard at upping his game - you got to when monster sharks like Old Glenny & Epping lurk in the water.

Playoffs is an entirely different matter. Lets see what he does this weekend in playoff action - when John & Glenn do everything they can to break him.

Meanwhile, in Ontario ladies. R. Homan dropped her final game yesterday - pulling an old Jennifer Jones trick out of her hat. Learned somewhere its not good to go into playoff action unbeaten - so she conjured up a sub-mediocre performance and lost her final game of the round-robin.

Still don't think there's an Ontario ladies team with the fortitude & skill of Jen Hanna who can take Rachel down when the money is tied to the tree.

Right now - her biggest cheerleader is in Alberta - Casey Scheidegger needs Rachel to win - in order to make it to STOH play-in.

Announcers Steski and Inglis?

Fresh, honest and entertaining. Not afraid to tell the truth when it's a bad shot or bad call. Rather than the politically correct announcers on both networks. The difference?

These guys, oh that was a terrible shot, what was he thinking?

Vs Oh that wasn't quite the outcome they were looking for.

Fresh. Like it. Well done. Just sarcastic enough.

Frankie Steski has always been "off" enough to verge on brilliance!

Agreed.

Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy both the TSN and Sportsnet teams, but the frankness and humor that Steski and Inglis bring to the table is awesome.

Homan throws her last rock of the final end, a draw for the win, up 5-4 and Team Tippin has a rock biting the side of the 12 foot. The rock comes into the rings and everyone assumes it's game over so they(Tippin) don't bother sweeping the rock as it crosses the tee line. It eventually comes to a stop back 12. Team Tippin could have swept the rock and very likely forced an extra end...but why risk looking foolish, it's just a trip to the Scotties on the line right?

The part that was missing for me was any sort of strategy discussion between shots. They did do a good job of assessing shot outcomes, though.

I'm probably the odd duck out but I prefer the commentary by Mary over Pete.

Congrats, Homan!

Looked like a combination of inexperience and being deflated. Team Homan shot the lights out.

I agree that the rock should have been swept hard at the tee line. There is always a chance you might get it out. I also have an issue with people in the house half heartedly sweeping rocks. Brush like your front end does!

I'm not sure that they would have got that rock out, but it could have been real close - it finished touching the 12 without any sweeping. Given the situation, they should have been all over it.

Julie Tippin team are good curlers, very good actually. But they're no match for Rachel Homan 53 Sundays a year.

Tippin musta been good just to be one down without hammer coming home to Rachel.

The only deflated folks should be Jones, Silvernagle, Fleury, Carey, McCarville, either Scheidegger or Einarson.

Their chances went down substantially with Rachel arriving on the scene - as predicted.

Think the two teams at this years STOH which have the best chance of toppling Rachel in round-robin play = = = Casey S. & Chelsea C.

If McCarville can get her low energy game in shape prior to playoffs she'll torment almost anyone in the field - even give Rachel a helluva match if she can get into the final.

I'll stick with my prediction about Jones. She's been terrible this year - in almost every aspect. Totally mis-using a great team and one of the 3 best 3rds in the world - if not the best.

JJ just doesn't make enough shots anymore - kinda the real key to winning big events. Team RH can go 2, sometimes 3 ends without missing - the other teams, especially Jones can't.

Strategically, Jones is vastly superior to anyone in this field. Only problem is you have to match your rock placement to your strategy.

Tippins mistake in the 10th was listening to her coach and then trying that idiotic yellow onto blue split for two. Just because Westman saw Fry do it once doesn't mean Tippin has the skills to do it.

Agreed, that wasn't a great idea. However the skip's draw behind the two rocks to bite the side of the rings was. Just maybe a rock or two too late. But the best she could hope for was Homan to throw light, heavy or the last rock to pick....and Homan threw heavy. It might have been a different outcome if she was throwing against two opponent rocks just biting. Learn from the mistakes, and better luck next year.
