I think you meant to say 2 Canadians that got together days before the trials, Out curled all the others at the trials and won, Then went to the Olympics and beat the reigning world champions that have curled together for YEARS...YEARS. One more time, YEARS.

Go Canada Go

Have you tried both formats? I have personally found it's far more difficult and challenging to attempt a normal takeout/peel or say a draw, or a tap or a freeze when there's only one sweeper, or perhaps no sweeper at all. And to make matters worse, it's not unusual, as you know, to have to frequently make shots when there's no broom to actually aim at!!

If you were to examine the shot percentages of curlers who play both formats, you will find, I believe, a significant drop in their percentage when they're in Mixed. So if you don't believe this discrepancy is primarily due to increased 'Difficulty", what do you attribute it to?

Pretty sure the Swiss are the defending world champions and are professional curlers, Finland are a top mixed doubles team as well and the Hamiltons also play together, so once again you speak without any knowledge.

i might be alone here but, canadian or not i do find it kind of embarrassing that a team that was literally thrown together at the last minute like these 2 were is doing so well

why?

They are two great individual players.

Thrown together at the last minute would not change their shotmaking. I am sure since knowing they would be going, they would have talked everyday on getting to each other better, what they like, don't like, etc.

I see two great curlers doing well individually at an event to be able to be combined and still curl to their potential.

I've been watching a Canadian team that's getting stronger and Stronger and STRONGER with each passing game.

While it's easy to pick 3 teams other than Canada that could possibly win gold, what are you seeing on your tv to suggest that Canada does not have at least an equal chance of winning?

I don't know why you are embarrassed or are dissing Kaitlyn and John's talent, They are both Olympic and World champions and their skills are not lessened by playing MDs.

In pro tennis, they also have doubles specialists who do very well on the circuit. Then every once in a while, the Williams sisters decide to play doubles together, and they usually cut through all those specialists like a hot knife through butter when they do.

I’m getting a similar vibe watching Morris and Lawes in this mixed doubles competition.

Whose Sniffles blinky? Small Tiny is curling very well and managing Morris. Her training with JJ is paying off.

Hayley Wickenheiser holds the record for Canadian Olympic Gold Medalists.

Should Lawes/Morris win the the Mixed Doubles, they'll both be half way there.

In a way I forgot and in a way I didn't. Assumed that " W " should be called Canada's record holder because she won 4 Gold plus 1 Silver.

Thought Hefford had merely won 4 Golds ! ! ! ! not realizing that she too had also won a Silver.

So best we them Canada's Olympic joint record holders ?

Playoffs

Morris and especially Lawes by going 6-1 through the round robin have shown that they are the class of the field. Unfortunately they have gained no advantage in the playoffs other than hammer. This highlights the benefits of the Page playoff system which gives the loser of the 1 vs 2 game a second chance. Anything can happen in a single game. Win or lose they are the best.

I agree that the "page" system is fairer for that reason and works well in most other tournaments.

How about like the old pro bowling tour. 4 vs 3 winner plays 2 winner plays 1. Top team right to the finals?

Sometimes the RR winner should be given an advantage other than hammer. Do they get colour as well? They should get both.

yes they were just mentioning about the rocks they picked and did not pick the set that Kaitlyn had trouble with.

Come on Kaitlyn!

I know that 99 times out of 100 a top level skip would have chosen the draw to the 4ft at the end of the 4th, but surely the fact that Kaitlyn is clearly struggling and wanted to play the in off suggests that they should have just gone with that?

It's amazing how good John Morris has been. He single-handedly has Canada ahead of Norway halfway through this semifinal. He is one against three out there, with Kaitlyn seemingly having bet against her own team. It's going to be tough for Kaitlyn to recover when her final shot mistakes are so painfully exposed in this format.

Kaitlyn woke up from her nap in 7...realised no JJ to carry her. Morris staying remarkably calm.

Got to be fair to Morris. He took a lot of abuse in the trials and in a couple of games here, but he's really done a great team mate job today. Touch wood it continues through to the gold medal ceremony!!

Morris knows when to step up...just ask Kevin Martin.
