Brad Gushue wins $200,000 Everest Curling Challenge

Brad Gushue (St. John's, NL) wins the Everest Curling Challenge, defeating John Epping (Toronto, ON) 6-5. Gushue with Cathy Overton-Clapham at third, E.J. Harnden and Lisa Weagle on the front end take home the $200,000CDN first place cheque the special mixed event held at the Willie O'Ree Place in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Starting with hammer, Gushue scored 3 in the first end for the 3-0 lead. After a blank end, Epping scored a single the third end, then added a steals in the fourth and fifth ends. Gushue scored 2 in the sixth end to extend lead to 5-3, with Epping responding in the seventh end scoring 2 to tie the game up setting up the single end finale for the big prize. After two great tick shots by Weagle, Gushue was left with an open hit to score a single in the eighth end for the 6-5 win.

In the semifinals, Gushue defeated Brad Jacobs (Sault Ste Marie, ON) 9-0 and Epping defeated Kevin Koe (Calgary, AB) 7-2. In the Quarterfinals, Gushue defeated Rachel Homan (Ottawa, ON) 8-4.
