Sweden, Canada and United States Women all make perfect starts in Suzhou

Suzhou, China - WCF Release - Sweden's Anna Hasselborg (WCF phpto by Celine Stucki), Rachel Homan (CAN) and Nina Roth (USA) ended day two of the Curling World Cup in Suzhou on a maximum six points - but only two can qualify for Sunday's final.

There was just one women's match in each of today's four sessions at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre, with Team Hasselborg the day's early winners against Japan in Group A.

It was pretty tight all the way through the game, but the eventual 7-4 scoreline left skip Anna Hasselborg reasonably satisfied as the Olympic champions sit on top of the group.

"I think we can improve on the performance but we're happy with the win," she said. "Both teams took advantage of the opponents' misses."

"The Curling World Cup is an amazing tournament, everything looks so professional, it feels like being at a World Championship. It's really cool that the WCF have put this event together and it's great for the sport."

China got their first win across all three disciplines when their women's rink defeated Team Muirhead 7-4. Stand-in skip Jennifer Dodds was unable to claw her side back into the game after a 4-0 opening end by Yilun Jiang put them under early pressure.

Team Homan encountered few problems against Korea, winning all six completed ends to wrap up a whopping 12-0 triumph. "The team played really well," said the 29-year-old Canadian skip. "We got a good feel for the rocks and the ice."

"Korea are a new team so they're still learning about each other. I'm sure we'll see a stronger performance next time we play them. Coming overseas and having a quick turnaround for getting over jet lag is tricky. We arrived on Tuesday and started playing right away, but we're very happy to be here."

In the day's final session, Team Roth inflicted a second successive defeat on Russia's Team Sidorova. Four points in the fourth end was the key moment for the Americans, who now join Canada on top of Group B on six points. Their meeting on Friday at noon will determine who leads the group at the halfway stage of the double round-robin.

United States second Becca Hamilton commented: "We had our ups and downs right away in the beginning, so we had to come together as a team and figure out what we're doing right and wrong and capitalise from there.

"I like the pace of play, it's keeping everyone aware of the time clocks and it?s been enjoyable. We had a tournament already this week in the States, so we're excited to be back on the ice and ready for the season to start now. It's always an honour to represent our country and the icing on the cake would be to get to the final here."
