Fujisawa Rounds out Players' Championship Quarters

Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa (Photo by Anil Mungal) defeated Laura Crocker of Canada 8-3 in Players' Championship tiebreaker held at old Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto.

TORONTO - Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa booked the last berth into the Grand Slam of Curling Players' Championship playoffs with an 8-3 win over Team Rocque of Edmonton, skipped this week by Laura Crocker.

Fujisawa will advance to the Quarterfinals where they will slot in as the 8-end seed to play top-seeded Jennifer Jones of Canada. The game will be available on CBC at 3:30pm ET.

Fujisawa began the game with hammer, scoring two with a tap back around a guard. After forcing Crocker into a single in the second end, Fujisawa scored two more with a draw in the third end to lead 4-1.

Crocker made the draw for 2 points in the fourth end to close the gap but Fujisawa scored 2 more in the fifth end, then stole singles in the sixth and seventh ends en route to an 8-3 win.

Number 2 seed Eve Muirhead of Scotland went 4-1 during the Players' Championship round-robin will face off against Silvana Tirinzoni (2-3) while Olympic Gold Medalists Anna Hasselborg (4-1) of Sweden will play USA's Jamie Sinclair (3-2). Hasselborg was off sick last evening in their final qualifying round game, though Sara McManus filled in at skip and the team won three-handed eliminating Canada's Chelsea Carey from the competition.

In the other quarterfinals matchup, Kerri Einarson (3-2) of Canada will play USA's Nina Roth (3-2).
