Canada defeats USA in Ford Worlds Semifinal

Canada's Jennifer Jones will face Anna Hasselborg of Sweden for World Championship Title.

North Bay, Canada - Canada's Jennifer Jones squeaked by USA's Jamie Sinclair 9-7, needing a final end hit to break a 7-all tie to advance to the Ford World Women's Curling Championship Final. Jones with Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn McEwen led 5-1 after 3 ends, but the feisty Americans fought back to tie the game after 9 ends at the Memorial Arena in North Bay.

"We're really excited, another opportunity to play in front of this amazing crowd. It was a game that was hard to hold the lead and it came down to the wire and we're pretty happy with the win," said Jones following the game.

"They made some great shots late in that game and it came right down to the very last end, a great game for the crowd."

Jones opened with three in the first end after a mistake by American third Alex Carlson chipped in a Jones guard, along with two missed doubles by Sinclair turned an open end into a big start for the Canadian foursome who came into the game undefeated. Jones made a double on her last in the 2nd end to force Sinclair to a single, then scored 2 more in the 3rd end for the early 5-1 lead.

Sinclair traded singles with Jones in the fourth and fifth ends as they settled down and started to put some pressure on Jones, then took their first deuce in the sixth end to cut the deficit to 6-4. After another force in the seventh end gave Sinclair then came out in the eighth end with two more points cutting the deficit to one, then made a great hit and roll on her last in the ninth end to square the game at 7 into the final end.

McEwen made two brilliant ticks opening the house for Canada, with Officer and Lawes perfect on their peels setting up the open hit for Jones to book their spot into Sunday's Championship Final.

"They're playing really well right now, they're the reigning Olympic Gold Medalist," said Jones about Sweden. "Always a tough team, but always a lot of fun to play so I expect a good game tomorrow."

Jones will play Sweden's Anna Hasselborg for the World Championship title at 3pm ET while Sinclair will play the Bronze Medal game against Russia's Victoria Moiseeva at 10am ET.
