This weekend, some of North America's top curlers fight back against childhood hunger at the 17th annual House of Hearts Celebrity Bonspiel in Duluth, MN. Participants from across the United States will team up with a star-studded lineup of celebrity skips to raise money for Project Joy. Partnering with the local Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, Project Joy strives to keep underprivileged children nourished when school is not in session. This BackPack program discretely provides food to students who would otherwise have nothing to eat on weekends and during the summer. The House of Hearts committee secured an impressive field of celebrity skips for this year's event, including several members of Team USA's gold medal-winning rink. Among those committed are John Shuster, Tyler George, Joe Polo, Chelsea Carey, Becca Hamilton, Jessica Schultz, Jamie Korab, Mike Harris, Chris Plys, and Aileen Geving. It's a spectacular cast of curlers dedicated to giving back to the less fortunate. For every $1 raised, Project Joy provides about $10 in food for the children. Even better, 100% of the proceeds from the House of Hearts Celebrity Bonspiel will go directly to those in need - nothing gets diverted for administrative or overhead costs. When registration opened for amateur curlers on January 1 of this year, participant tickets sold out in three days. After all, where else can you play alongside world-class Olympians, pick up some on-ice tips, and raise money for an important cause - all at the same time? For those who cannot make it to Duluth, there's still a chance to get in on the action. Fans can go online and vote for their favorite celebrity skip - at the low cost of a $5 donation to Project Joy - for Friday afternoon's Celebrity Skins Showdown. The Showdown will be streamed live on the 12th End Sports Network and the top two vote-getters will each captain a team. Votes will be accepted until Thursday evening, with each one feeding a hungry child for an entire weekend. The 2018 House of Hearts Celebrity Bonspiel combines our favorite sport and a great cause worthy of wider support. Learn more about HOH and consider contributing at www.hohduluth.org. |
