Edin wins Mercure Perth Masters
Niklas Edin (Karlstad, Sweden) wins the Mercure Perth Masters, defeating Peter De Cruz (Geneva, Switzerland) 7-4 at the Perth Dewars Centre in Perth, Scotland. Edin with Oskar Eriksson at third, Rasmus Wrana and Christoffer Sundgren on the front end take home the $10,954CDN first place cheque along with 48.166 world ranking points, while De Cruz receives $6,741CDN and 37.845 world ranking points for their second place finish. Starting with hammer, Edin scored 2 in the first end, then added a steal in the second end. De Cruz scored 3 in the third end, with Edin responding in the fourth end scoring 3 to take a 6-3 lead. After a blank end, De Cruz scored a single the sixth end, with Edin scoring 1 in the 7th end and running De Cruz out of rocks in the 8th for the 7-4 win. In the semifinals, Edin defeated Thomas Ulsrud (Oslo, Norway) 7-2 and De Cruz defeated Alexander Baumann (Baden-Baden, Germany) 7-3. Ulsrud and Baumann earned $2,696CDN and 29.244 ranking points for their semifinal finishes. In the quarterfinals, Edin defeated Rasmus Stjerne (Hvidovre, Denmark) 8-4, De Cruz defeated Kyle Smith (Perth, Scotland) 6-3, while Ulsrud defeated Cameron Bryce (Stirling, Scotland) 5-3 and Baumann defeated Pat Simmons (Winnipeg, Canada) 6-3. Simmons, Stjerne, Smith and Bryce earned $1,264CDN along with 20.643 ranking points for their quarterfinal finishes. Edin went 4-0 in the 32 team triple knockout qualifying round. In their opening game, Edin defeated Jan Hess (Zug, Switzerland) 11-1, won against Yusuke Morozumi (Karuizawa, Japan) 7-6, and Jiri Snitil (Prague, Czech Republic) 6-5 advancing to the A-Qualifier where they won against Ulsrud 4-2 to reach the playoff round. |
