Topic Review (Newest First)
Curl4thegirls It’s that time of year again, it is time for the Canadian Junior Championships. This year they will be held in PRINCE ALBERT, SK from January 19-27, 2019. The juniors have been using the pool format for a while now and will continue to do so in this year's edition. The winners will go on to represent Canada at the World Juniors hosted in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, 16-23 February 2019.

This year is much of the same as last year with minor changes when it comes to the teams. On the Women’s side, Yukon will not enter a team this year and that spot will be filled by a “host team” from Moose Jaw, SK.

2019 Predictions:

Women’s:

I expect much of the same of the top teams from last year going forward into the Championship Pool.

Team Nova Scotia (Jones) and New Brunswick (Comeau) are the same teams from last year as Nova Scotia looks to defend their title. These teams should be a leading force going into playoff weekend.

Other teams to consider come playoff time are Sarah Daniels’ crew from BC and Northern Ontario’s Team Brunton as these teams make their way back to a national. Team Quebec (St-Georges) will be looking to get back to the podium again this year.

All these teams will be at the top come to the Championship pool, and honestly, it could be anyone's game come semi-finals and finals with these teams.

Gold- Jones (NS)
Silver- Daniels (BC)
Bronze- Brunton (NO)
Dark Horse- St-Georges (QC)

Men’s:

The men’s side will defiantly be one to watch this year. The top teams are most of the same from last year yet some minor roster changes. Team Tardi from BC, looking to defend their gold medal, the team added Matt Hall from Ontario in the offseason as the former Ontario skip throwing second stones for Tardi. The other team that was in last years final is team Northern Ontario, (Horgan), Horgan at his 6th Junior National, as the team has a new second, Max Cull, this will be this first national. Tardi and Horgan are no strangers to big games as these guys have battled for gold last year.

Other teams on the men’s side that could be dark horses and competitive at the end of the week include Manitoba (Ryan), SASKATCHEWAN (Kleiter), another team that could be competitive is Ontario (Steep) but I do not see them making playoffs.

Gold- Horgan (NO)
Silver- Tardi (BC)
Bronze- Manitoba (Ryan)
Dark Horse- Ontario (Steep)
