TSN2 is new channel that is being introduced this Friday, what you were watching last year was the TSN Alternate Feed (see http://www.tsn.ca/tsn2/story/?id=246287 for more information). I know way too much about this because it's screwed me over trying to watch my IndyCar.
Pretty much, TSN had a license where they are allowed to show 10% new programming (about 17 hours/week). This was the alternate feed. What they decided to do was take that license and turn it into an entire network, primarily showing what they're showing on the main network, time shifted for the west coast. On top of that, they will show the live events that they had on the alternate feed.
This part is just the rumour that is going around, but it makes a lot of sense. Three or four weeks ago TSN asked all the carriers to sign an agreement saying they would carry TSN2... only 3 carriers (SaskTel, Cogeco and someone else outside of Ontario) signed the deal, and TSN responded by pulling the alternate feed from every other carrier. Like I said, it's just a rumour... but the timing coincides perfectly.
Anyway, Bell and Rogers both have arguably good reasons for not carrying TSN2. Rogers doesn't want competition with Sportsnet and can't be forced to compete against it. TSN is a Bell Canada Entrerprise station, and the CRTC has regulated that Expressview can only carry a specific ration of BCE:Non-BCE stations, which is at the max right now.
I was irate when I sat down to watch my race and instead I got a Rogers infomercial for the Bills. But after I got over that, my next thought was how bad is this going to screw up curling.
