Sharpened blades from Ice King
I just checked my blades from Ice King that were sharpened in September. Both of them are scalloped (wavy) from the grinder. I will post a picture or 2 later. Just wondering if anyone out there has had similar results from Ice King recently. One blade is useable the other doesn't cut so well.

Hey Mike and Everyone Else!
Hope you all had a great summer and easy installs! I always take a momment every once and a while to ready through this thread to keep up to date on how things are going out there and to try and keep in touch with the ice techs. I don't always post unless its something that needs to be addressed and I just wanted to clarify and let everyone know that we are doing all of our blade sharpening (5ft, nipper and handscraper) in house. We have our own grinder and have been busy all summer with blades from all over.
Wishing you all a great season,
Kimberly Tuck

Blades
Bravo Hogline Sally ( Kim )...I was going to post in Fred's Defense...but I see you beat me too it ....When Icfe King left Us ice techs in a tough spot Early Last Season , I have been sending my blades to Fred at Canada Curling Stone...Now that he has moved to a bigger and Better location....all blades coming from Fred have been great , True & last much longer with no backgrind...Awesome and Consistant !...Remember Fred Used to Own Ice King and started to ball rolling for the Cordless Scraper...Experience & Knowledge is Key...The Bonus with Fred is He'll tell you & Catalgue ( oops ) your blade to tell you whats wrong with and will try and Correct Blade History and how it was badly Sharpened...Maybe with a Offset Croocked Backgrind that was in my case from a Previous Unnamed Company...1 more sharpen and she should be back to Square Again....Now I Trust Fred to do a Great Job
Repeat Customer Always
Cheers & have a Great Season !!
Mikey

Sorry Kim.
But I was told or read somewhere that the blades C.C.S. had were be sent to J&T to be sharpened. I didn't know that you were doing you own sharpening now. The 08/09 price list bourchure does not list this service. Could you send me a price list of this service at Burlington Curling Club.

Ice King Sharpening - Explained
To all -
As with any business there will occasionally be a customer who is not completely satisfied. It is disconcerting to find this site once again being used to voice unwarranted 'digs' against Ice King. Ice King offers a warranty on blade sharpening - I am sorry to hear that Brookline has a problem with one of his blades - A call to our shop would have resulted in an offer to resharpen the blade... as well as a full analysis of the problem. This offer remains available for Brookline. - It is physically impossible for the grinder to induce a wave into the blade as the blade and the grinder are maintained in a perfectly parallel state while the grinding operation is executed.
Ice King is completely focused on blades and scrapers - we make it our business to ensure that you, as icemakers, have great ice. We will always stand behind the quality of our work. Our expertise spans 16 years of blade sharpening - and is increasing, as we are in the midst of working with consultants to conduct an FEA-based analysis of blade physics.
As stated on our web site, Ice King maintains a history of the blade profiles for all blades sharpened in our shop. (The profile documents the straightness of the blade as-received from the club and as-returned to the club.) We do not ship any blades which exceed our tolerance of .0005". We also document any problems with the blade - and contact our customer to discuss repair alternatives if the blade is damaged.

To all,
It was not my intension to start anything NEGATIVE with regards to Ice King by posting this thread. In the past we have always had good results from Ice King with our blade sharpening. With the problems at Ice King last year our blades were sharpened elsewhere. This past fall the blades went back to Ice King and were returned with what I consider unsatisfactory results. So by starting this thread I was just curious if this was an isolated incident. Since there were no responses with regards to my question I can only assume this case was isolated. I WAS NOT LOOKING FOR ADVICE ABOUT WHERE I SHOULD BE SHARPENING MY BLADES.
A call was made to Ice King when the blades were opened but apparently we did not talk to the right person. I took Cindy up on her offer and called again this morning. She was more than helpful and offered to assess the blades and resharpen.
I just want to reiterate...we have always had good results from Ice King on their blade sharpening services.

After struggling for years in Scotland to find a good grinder for blades, I eventually did. However, two of the second batch of blades had a similar problem to what you describe, and they were very difficult to hone. I never did find out if the fault was with the blades or the grinder, but I did discover that, on that occasion, he had given the grinding to a less experienced person, which said all I needed to know.
On another occasion a pallet of blades was sent to Canada and was returned with poor blades across the board. I don't know who did them, but there was uproar here.
So these things happen, and we can only praise Cindy for her efforts to do better, and for speaking up here on the forum. I remain an Ice King fan.

Just tried the new boss at Woodstock. What a machine, they got it from CCS and Tom said its a huge improvement. I did a couple of sheets with a nub blade and it was very impressive.
