(Jan 12, 2009) -- RAMA, ON (January 11, 2009) – Randy Ferbey won his second TSN Skins title by defeating three-time World Champion, Glenn Howard, in the final of the CASINO RAMA CURLING SKINS GAME PRESENTED BY TOW TRUCK IN A BOX, which aired live today on TSN and TSN HD. The final, and both of yesterday’s semifinals, are available on-demand at TSN.ca.

Ferbey earned a total of $70,000, bringing his career TSN Skins Game winnings to $168,300 (all figures Cdn). Ferbey’s prize money this year includes $35,000 from today’s final, $20,000 from yesterday’s semifinal where he defeated Kevin Martin, and a $15,000 bonus for winning the entire tournament. As the winner, Ferbey is guaranteed a spot in the next Casino Rama Curling Skins Game.

Today’s final started with a first end carry-over, followed by the teams trading skins through the next four ends, leaving them tied with $7,000 each through five. After another carry-over in the sixth end, the intensity picked up in the seventh with two skins available to be won worth a combined $15,000 – enough to win the match. Both Ferbey and Howard had a single stone sitting just millimeters outside of the four-foot ring and a measurement was needed to determine shot rock. Team Howard had the hammer and needed the critical measurement to go its way to force another carry-over. After two careful measurements it was determined that Howard’s stone was indeed closer, which set up a tournament-deciding eighth end. Team Ferbey secured the win in the eighth and final end, pocketing the three skins worth $28,000 and the tournament winner bonus of $15,000, for a grand total of $70,000 for the weekend.

This made-for-TV original TSN production is an annual all-Canadian event featuring four invited Canadian rinks competing for a total cash purse of $100,000. This year’s event marks the first time a women’s rink has competed against men’s rinks in a TSN skins game.

“Playing against such top-notch competition in a special venue like Casino Rama is a real pleasure,” said Ferbey. “This is an unbelievable event and we’re looking forward to coming back for the next one.”

Glenn Howard takes home a total of $27,500 from the weekend.

In yesterday’s Semifinal #1, Ferbey came away with seven Skins and $20,000, defeating Kevin Martin who won one Skin worth $1,000. In Semifinal #2, also played yesterday, Howard pocketed $19,500 for seven Skins on his way to a win over reigning women’s World Champion, Jennifer Jones, who won $1,500.
