(Nov 26, 2008) -- The Schille Team, consisting of Chris Schille, Charley Thomas, DJ Kidby and Adam Enright captured the Skookum WCT Whitehorse Cash spiel with a 7-0 win over Seattle's Jason Larway. The Edmonton foursome qualified Saturday night, regardless of a devastating loss to the Whitehorse Junior Men’s team skipped by Thomas Scoffin.
Chris and his teammates re-grouped for Sunday as they defeated Jay Peachey in the quarter finals. They then went on to defeat Team Waatainen (the returning champions from a year ago) in the semifinals before a head to head battle against Larway. The Schille Team was able to muster enough energy to defeat Jason Larway and his team in the final – taking home a cheque for $15,000. The second place team Larway walked away with a cheque for $9,000 – not bad for a weekend of enjoyment in Whitehorse.
“Obviously the quiet and serene backdrop of the North was very soothing for the Schille Team” says Suzanne Bertrand, chairperson of the 2007 and 2008 Skookum Cash Spiel. “This team quietly went about there business here and we are proud to call them the 2008 Champions”.
Darrell Stone, District Manager of Skookum Asphalt Ltd, graciously handed out the hardware and cheques to the teams on Sunday evening. “We’re so pleased to be the title sponsor of this event” said Stone, the main contributor of the event. “We’ve been fortunate to have so many terrific high caliber teams participate in this event, but this event wouldn’t take place without our local teams who use this event as a stepping stone for their own Territorial and National playdowns.”
Skookum Asphalt Ltd has agreed to stay on as title sponsor for the 2009 event, which will guarantee the prize purse of $50,000 CAD once again. |
