(Nov 26, 2008) -- After opening up with a loss to Craig Strand, 8-6 in an extra end, Jeff Stoughton and his Charleswood CC mates of Kevin Park, Rob Fowler and Steve Gould ran off seven straight wins in securing their second event victory of the season, this time in Stonewall at the Interlake Pharmacy Classic.
In the final game against Brad Haight of Winnipeg’s, West Kildonan CC, Stoughton had a 4-2 lead at the halfway point when Haight and company scored a single in six, then stole a deuce in seven to take the lead with three ends to play. Stoughton and crew then scored a deuce of their own in eight, Haight was then forced to take a single in nine, before Stoughton scored a game winning deuce in the final end to secure a $10,000 victory, make the score, 7-6.
For the Stoughton team this is their second victory this season on the MCT, having won the Manitoba Lotteries Stakes six weeks ago, thus propelling them into first place on the MCT money list.
As for the Haight team they carted away the runner-up cart of $6,000 for their efforts.
Losing semi-finalists of Allan Lyburn from Brandon with Scott Ramsay at the helm (7-1 to Stoughton) and Randy Dutiaume of West Kildonan (9-3 to Haight), settled for $3,000 apiece.
The two quarter-final losers of Brendan Taylor from West Kildonan (6-2 to Stoughton) and Dave Smith from Lorette (6-5 to Haight) pocketed $2,000 each.
In the consolation final it was Reid Carruthers and team collecting $1,000 with a 9-2 victory over Steve Friesen from Morden, in this 24 team, 6 qualifier plus consolation event on the WCT/MCT.
