Canadians coaching other countries is not about nationalism or patriotism. It's pure economics! Business, plain and simple. If coaching another country is where the money is, congrats to those who get the opportunity.

Actually Ontario has a Russian coach helping their elite gymnasts and the Americans lured a Chinese coach for their program. Good coaches, including Canadian curling coaches are in demand all over the world. |

IMO you have to view the Canadian Coaches of foreign countries based on the situation. As long as these are private individuals not attached to, or funded by the CCA then they are free to do as they wish. They are people seeking employment no different than you or I.
Now when they are attached-or funded by-the CCA, or even a provincial governing body, then it is a different matter entirely. If you are paid a wage to coach Canadian teams-or develop programs in Canada-you should definitely not be coaching a foreign team.
If it's what you want to do, fine. But not with our money helping you create teams to beat us. |

I think if you look closely you'll see coaches from other countries going in all directions. I seem to recall the Americans had a former Russian as a gymnastics coach.
I think it's got to be bigger picture. The sport is not so huge that we can focus on ourselves. We have help bring all teams up to make the sport more exciting. |

I can see both sides to this but helping other countries beat Canada how does that help our Canadian teams?? And im not 100% sure but I don't see Chinees coaches or any other country, helping our Canadian gymnastics team beat their gymnastics team at the Olympics. |

There is nothing wrong with Canadians coaching teams from other countries. Every other sport uses the best resources for their teams so curling should be no different.
In the long run this will benefit our teams when the CCA figures out this country has an almost unlimited amount of strategic and tactical talent which goes unused. The example of Russ helping the Swiss team should highlight the fact.
The CCA removing stats from their website goes a long way in proving their weakness in this area. In the real world scouts don't care what you did last year, they are only interested in what the player or team they are scouting did last week. The only way to Keep a guy like Russ from developing a game plan to beat our teams would be to hold our trials without TV in a facility without fans. Not gonna happen.
We should be working on a plan to pick apart Russ's Swiss team instead of being concerned about what the other teams are doing to prepare to beat our teams. |
