Source: Capital One Grand Slam of Curling Release ST. JOHN’S, NL – Glenn Howard (Coldwater, Ont.) captured his first TYLENOL® Players’ Championship today after defeating defending champion Kevin Martin (Edmonton, Alta.) 7-1 in the finals of the men’s fourth and final Capital One Grand Slam of Curling event. Held at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, the five-day event concluded with a total attendance of 28,272.
“Winning the TYLENOL® Players’ Championship is the pinnacle of curling for us in the Capital One Grand Slam of Curling series,” said Howard. “More importantly, this victory puts into the Canadian Trials officially.”
Tied 1-1 after three ends, Howard took his first lead of the game in the fourth, when Martin’s final rock over-curled and caught a guard, giving the 2007 World Champion a steal of one point.
After blanking the fifth end, Howard broke open the game in the sixth after several Team Martin misses left him sitting five heading into Martin’s last shot. During his final attempt, Martin’s rock over-curled and he was unable to save the end with a tap, allowing Howard a steal of three points for an insurmountable 5-1 lead. Read More |
